A pair of luxury twisting towers have finally topped out near New York City's High Line, the beloved elevated park built along abandoned train tracks on Manhattan's west side.After years of construction, the $1.9 billion development will soon welcome residents to its 236 condominiums, the majority of which will be located at the West Tower. The East Tower will contain a 137-room luxury hotel.

The XI, BIG’s latest project in West Chelsea, has just topped off construction. Two twisting structures react to one another as they move upward, opening up expansive views in the 236 luxury residences. The floor Ingels is looking out from has been enclosed in glass ahead of a party for the upcoming Six Senses hotel, the luxury brand’s first U.S. location, which will occupy several floors of the building. “All of the units have either views of the High Line or of the river,” Ingels says. “I would say two thirds of them have both.”

the two bjarke ingels group-designed towers that comprise the XI, or ‘the eleventh’, have topped out in manhattan’s chelsea neighborhood. the 300-foot-tall (91m) east tower, known as ‘no. X’, will contain 87 residences as well as a hotel, while the 400-foot-tall (122m) west tower (‘no. I’) will contain a further 149 residences. located in close proximity to the high line, the project forms part of a new ‘architecture row’, which already includes projects by renzo piano, jean nouvel, and frank gehry.
A “BIG” Deal: The XI’s Topping Out Party

Yesterday afternoon in Chelsea, we joined a small group to scale the side of a building in a construction hoist for a topping out party. For those not savvy with real estate lingo: a “hoist” is the elevator that operates outside of the building for construction workers to access all levels of a site from the outside before internal elevators are assembled; and a “topping out” party is a celebration for when all concrete has been poured and sealed on every level of a project. The scenario was one for something truly special—The XI, developed by HFZ Capital Group and designed by Bjarke Ingels.

Superstructure has topped out at the east tower of HFZ Capital Group's The Eleventh, a mixed use development at 76 11th Avenue. Designed by the Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), the development consists of two twisting towers atop an 85 foot podium adjacent to the High Line. The 36-story west tower rises 400 feet and will consist of residential units and supporting amenities. A 26-story east tower, newly topped out at 300 feet, will offer a mixture of residential units on the upper floors and a Six Senses hotel on the lower floors.

Bjarke Ingels’ twisting towers at 76 Eleventh Avenue in Chelsea officially topped out this week, with the 36-story West tower reaching 400 feet shortly after the 26-story East tower hit its 300-foot height. The High Line-adjacent XI, located right across the street from Thomas Heatherwick’s bubbled condos at 515 West 18th Street, will offer 236 luxury condos, the first Six Senses Hotel location in the United States, commercial space, and a new public promenade that will extend from the park. Designed by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), the XI’s slanted shape gives the illusion the two buildings are being pulled apart, allowing for all residents to have views of both the city and the Hudson River.

Starchitect Bjarke Ingels has described the High Line as an “ambition enhancer” for architects. Judging by the buildings that have gone up or are under construction, the likes of Frank Gehry, Jeanne Gang, Zaha Hadid, Norman Foster, Thomas Heatherwick, and Jean Nouvel would agree with that.However, the most distinct and recognizable addition to the West Chelsea skyline is The XI, a two-building development designed by Ingels and developed by HFZ Capital Group. The east tower, known as No. X, just topped out at 300 feet and 26 stories high. Its 87 condos with interiors by Gilles et Boissier will start on the 11th floor above a 137-room Six Senses Hotel, the first in the United States.
