BRYANT PARK ELEVATED WITH GROUNDBREAKING FIRST.
At a time when residential projects in the Bryant Park vicinity were unheard of, HFZ boldly broke with the status quo and partnered with David Chipperfield Architects to build the first ever condominium directly on Bryant Park. This elegant destination inarguably transforms the entire Bryant Park neighborhood—revitalizing not only the park itself, but igniting a complete reconsideration of its environs.
The Bryant is Chipperfield’s first US residential building, giving it an inherently unique perspective. Rising 33 stories over its namesake Bryant Park, this ground up mixed-use development—with its hotel, restaurant, bar and residential condominiums—stands as an oasis of civility in the epicenter of Manhattan. Its symmetrical design and cast concrete-terrazzo façade unite the classic and the contemporary to elegant effect. This understated edifice, blending with both streetscape and cityscape, epitomizes urban revitalization at its best.
Since the completion of The Bryant, Chipperfield has selected to rebuild the southeast wing of the esteemed Metropolitan Museum of Art. Chipperfield’s unique ability to reinvigorate classic edifices is world renowned. His flair for giving modernity a sense of history is also on display in the flagship luxury retail boutiques he has designed in capital cities from Rome to Paris to New York. In 2018, he will undertake the restoration of Venice’s Procuratie Vecchie. This Piazza San Marco edifice, which has been closed to the public for five centuries, will be restored, reinvigorated and transformed into a public art space under his auspices.
